Phillip Kane is a Senior Business Strategist for Generational Consulting Group. He is a business leader, author and speaker who has delivered results across a wide range of businesses primarily by motivating diverse teams to achieve more than they ever thought possible. He has led P&Ls ranging from $50M to more than $2.5B in publicly traded Fortune 500 firms, private-equity backed holdings and small, family-owned enterprises. After beginning his career as a paperboy, Phillip went on to spend more than 25 years in some of the best-known automotive, industrial, consumer durables, distribution and banking businesses in the world, where he developed a reputation for leading business transformations mostly in jobs no one else wanted.

In addition to his work with Generational, Phillip is CEO and Managing Partner of Grace Ocean, LLC a boutique advisory firm consulting with clients ranging from Fortune 500 corporations to mid-market private-equity-backed firms. Most recently he has filled the role of interim CEO for a PE-backed manufacturer-distributor of auto parts, division leader for a $100B provider of truck service and maintenance which was sold to a strategic buyer, and with McKinsey & Co, as a consultant to a large, global tire manufacturer exploring geographic expansion.  Phillip also acts as a Senior Advisor to both Stout Risius Ross and Rothschild & Co, where he brings operational expertise to their investment banking businesses.

Previously, Phillip was the Chief Commercial Officer in Key Markets at Pirelli, a $6B tire maker, based in Milan, Italy, where he led a renewal of their commercial truck tire business globally.

Prior to Pirelli, Phillip spent 11 years working for the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company, a $15B+ tire manufacturer with over 60,000 associates worldwide. Joining Goodyear in 2004 to help drive the company’s turnaround in North America, Phillip ultimately led a more than $300M transformation of the firm’s $2B Commercial Tire business.

Before joining Goodyear, Phillip held executive roles with Genuine Parts Company (NAPA) a $9B auto parts distribution leader based in Atlanta, GA and Snap-On, a $3B provider of tools and related information systems, where he was involved in the start-up of their Business Solutions division.

Phillip grew up in small business. His grandfather was an International Harvester (now Navistar) truck dealer. His father was a GM-Volvo White truck dealer. His father had a rule, the same as his grandfather, which said, “You can work here, but you must go to work for someone else first.” Phillip left the family business and had so much fun in industry that he never went back.

Phillip holds an MBA from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville

He is the author of the book, The Not So Subtle Art of Caring: Letters on Leadership, from John Hunt Publishing, London. He is a regular contributor to such as Inc. Magazine and Tire Review writing on leadership issues and topics relevant to the trade. He loves speaking to groups on the topic of winning while caring for others.

He lives in Akron, Ohio, the rubber capital of the world. He is married to his first wife, Annie. They have three children: Caroline (24), Charlotte (21) and William (17) and four wonderdogs: Moses, Daisey, Eddie and Pete.
